The University of Chicago Medicine and NorthShore University HealthSystem offers a one year ACGME-accredited Molecular Genetic Pathology fellowship. The fellowship includes training in the areas of inherited genetic disorders, cancer genetics (solid tumor and hematopathology), infectious disease, tissue typing (HLA), cytogenetics, and medical genetics. The fellow will be trained in a broad range of molecular and cytogenetic techniques including nucleic acid extraction, quantitative and qualitative amplification methods (PCR, RT-PCR, quantitative PCR), multiplex ligation-dependent probe amplification (MLPA), capillary electrophoresis, Sanger sequencing, FISH, SNP-array, and next-generation sequencing. The fellow will actively participate in the review, interpretation and reporting of test results, test development and validation, QA/QC activities, laboratory management/administration duties, and will provide molecular consultation to clinicians.
